- From cards, memorable gifts and discount codes – here’s some Mother’s Day gift inspiration
For those of you who haven’t heard – Mother’s Day is the 15th March (that’s this Sunday!) And if you’re as busy as I am you’ll probably have left it late. No worries though here are a few ideas to help you out:
1) Start with the card.
If you can’t afford to get your Mum something super swish then show you care with a personalised card. Obviously cards are pretty cheap in supermarkets but you know that involves taking time away from the fun of dissertation writing and actually getting there… Plus for a little bit extra you can create a personalised card she’ll love – include the date on the back and it will be something she can keep. Plus they’ll post it straight to her door if you can’t make it home on the day.
My personal fave is funkypigeon.com – use the code ’30MOO’ for 30% off a card order and if you order 2 or more cards delivery is free!
2) Memory gifts
There are plenty of websites which you can use to create photo books and so on. Something i’ve found makes a great gift is a photo collage from snapfish.co.uk. You can create an A4 collage of your favourite pics for £1.09. If you’re new to the site you’ll also get 20 free prints. Grab a cheap frame and you’ve got something that looks like you’ve spent a lot more time and effort on it!
Also…make a compilation CD using her favourite songs or grab some family footage and put it together on a DVD. If you have old VHS tapes go get them converted to DVD (SnappySnaps can do this!)
Obviously flowers are a pretty safe option. However florists – online or not don’t come cheap! Grab a bouquet from the supermarket along with a cheap vase (such as fromThe Range, Asda or Poundworld) and tie some ribbon round the vase. Looks more thoughtful than ‘I picked these up at the petrol station on the way home’. Alternatively, supermarkets do some great potted plants – orchids in Tesco are around £4.99.
4) Gift Experiences
If you have a bit of a higher budget use websites like buyagift.co.uk or lastminute.com for spa days, afternoon tea or photoshoots which you can go to with your Mum for a special experience.
Want some extra brownie points? Cook breakfast in bed or bake a cake. (And make sure you do the washing up!)
6) Personalised pamper gift.
Grab a basket and fill it with a few goodies like:
- bath bombs
- a bottle of wine
- a book or DVD
- cosy socks
- mini beauty products or nail varnish
Mum can have a nice pamper night in. Head to somewhere like the Card Factory where you can pick up gift bags, tissue paper and ribbons to be a bit more creative.
7) And one of the best gifts…
Surprise her with…well you! Tell your Mum you can’t make it because you’re too busy with university work then turn up on the doorstep. She’ll be thrilled you came.
If you are going shopping (online or off) check out discount websites such as myvouchercodes.co.uk to check out the best discounts! Some of the best include money off at Thorntons, The Fragrance Shop and The Body Shop!
